Manuelita Brown is a sculptor who works in bronze; “figurative, often with an abstract basis”. Her latest work, “Encinitas Child”, is part of Encinitas Public Art program and will be installed along our historic downtown Highway 101. Kevin Anderson is a well known muralist, who not only grew up in Encinitas, but also had Ms. Brown as a mathematics teacher at San Dieugito High School.

Kevin,
When I brought by piece up to Mary’s the other night to drop it off (late, as with everything in my life), I saw your painting from across the room. I thought it was a photo of Manuelita Brown. But when I got closer I saw it was super impressionism. Then Mary told me it was the piece of art you did for the show. Now here’s the weird part. I met Manuelita about a month ago at a pre-show of her “Encinitas Child” bronze she did. She looked familiar in person, but it didn’t click. Then when I saw your painting the other night, I thought, hey, that looks like that teacher at San Dieguito HS in the 70′s. Sure enough it was. Strange that I’d recognize her from your painting and not in person.
